Week 18: Week 3: Exciting News!

Hello!

I'm determined to catch up with these posts, so let's leap right into writing my week 3 update!

Monday was a lecture that I felt was kind of pointless - it was about how much work journalists do which, at this point in my course, I was very aware of how much work I'm going to be doing in my desired career and I just felt somewhat patronised and belittled so wasn't a big fan! However, in seminar we were writing and doing practical, fun work so it was definitely much better. I hate to admit that I didn't go to shorthand again because I was feeling so awfully tired I'd been falling asleep already so I knew I wouldn't learn anything. I did go to sleep very early that night so I justify and stand by my decision not to go.

Tuesday was another good Law lecture with Kristian but I was still recovering from a very long day at a dance competition at the weekend (I went about 37/38 hours without sleep so was still catching up!) so being there for a 9am was challenging! My seminar in the afternoon was not taken by Kristian and I don't quite see the relevance of it either, but I went so at least I didn't miss anything important.

Wednesday was another really good news day - the third year we'd been working with the week before was the editor this week so put my two friends and I in a group because she knows we work really well together. We participated in creating a package with copy and two videos so we did really well! It was in regard to Valentine's Day and bad pick up lines and involved me and Aimee (warning both of our boyfriends) and downloading tinder to see what awful pick up lines we got! I got an awfully explicit one but we put some of the more appropriate ones in the copy! Have a read: Valentine's Day and Dating Apps: Can You Find The One? (we did the video with bad pick up lines and the awful dating stories, brilliantly edited by James!)

Thursday was my day off and I used it to go to London and see my favourite band, All Time Low, for the 5th time at the O2 arena! I'll be writing a review for the Solent Journalism website (going up Wednesday 17th!) and I wrote a post about tips for going to a concert on my personal blog: 5 Concert Tips!

However, whilst I was back at Waterloo station by 11.10pm, my train didn't leave till 11.35 and there was work on the lines between Basingstoke and Southampton.

So I was put on a replacement bus.

I didn't get back to the station until 2am and didn't get home till nearer half past. By the time I got back, sorted myself out and got into bed it was 3am and having suffered a panic attack and major anxiety due to travel disruption, I was not in a state to go into video the next day. So I emailed my tutor at 3am and spent most of Friday in bed. I missed learning the basics of Final Cut Pro unfortunately but I think I might have a little bit of extra time next week to watch some tutorials on YouTube.

Which brings me to my big news! I won't be going to university next week because on Tuesday, I got an email from Channel 4 (channel 4!!) saying my application for work experience had been successful! I'm going to be working in the online department of channel 4 for a week! My travel and hotel have been paid for, I get breakfast at the hotel and I get to work at a massive company that people have actually heard of for a whole week! I'm hoping I'll get free time in the evenings to work on an assignment that's due at the beginning of the week I get back but I'm going on work experience!

I'm going to be blogging every day on my personal blog next week to document what I'll be doing but I'm very excited! Also very nervous but it's going to be very exciting! Especially catching up with what I'm missing at uni at the same time!

Here's to Channel 4 (and hopefully making a good enough impression to get a job)!

(up to date with this blog at long last!)
