First Assignment: What personal achievement makes you most proud?

Hello!

When asked what's my proudest achievement to date, I always answer 'my book' immediately (except that one time I was at a job interview and I said something that made me more relevant to the job).

Whenever I talk about it people are surprised, especially as I have printed copies. When I went for my university interview, I took it in my portfolio and the Course Leader was so interested that he asked one of the News Day students to interview me and I got to do a phone interview; it was my little taste of fame, as I like to think. (You can read the article here, I'm not above shameless self promotion)

I wrote the 50,000 word novel in six weeks - on November 30th 2012 I had the first draft of Type 3: Hyper-IntelligentI've not had a chance to redraft it since then (what with GCSEs and A Levels to stress over) but as I wrote it when I was 16, I'm still so proud of it. I can't find the words for how much hope I have for this story.

A few of my friends and family have read my book and they all say they loved it - even my nan said she could put down the post-apocalyptic tale. What makes the printed copies even more special for me is that my friend painted pictures of my characters - the cover picture is the protagonist characters Jack and Jinx in exactly the way I'd imagined them.

I still hold high hopes for my book - I want to develop it and extend it and give those characters a few more words to make their world just that little bit more real to the reader.

So I can say without a shadow of a doubt; Type 3: Hyper-Intelligent is the personal achievement that makes me most proud.

    1. it's not published as such - I wrote the book with a website called NaNoWriMo.com where people try to write a 50,000 word book in a month and one of the perks was getting 5 free printed copies of your book! I'd like to get it published in the future though.

    1. I don't want to spoil it, but one thing that's always bugged me about zombie movies is that they always focus on immediate survival, rather than the long term so my book, I guess, is about balancing those things :)

  3. This is an amazing achievement that requires so much time and motivation. I've always been very interesting in creative writing, while making up a few short stories from a young age even to now! A very amazing achievement that you should definitely be proud of.

  4. This is actually so amazing! I've always wanted to write a book, but I've never gotten around to it. I'd love to know more about the process of writing the book and how you went about planning your ideas before delving into the writing process.

    1. the book was basically inspired by the film Zombieland with Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone - I wanted to write something zombie related but the more I planned and developed everything the book is unrecognisable from the film. Designing and crafting the plot, settings and characters was really fun :)
